The 12th episode of Watashi no Shiawase na Kekkon, one of the most intriguing and beautifully designed shows this year, concluded today. The social media platform X (previously Twitter) has just announced that the anime will return for a second season.
Without a release window, the continuation must remain produced by the good studio Kinema Citrus, covering the light novel by Akumi Agitogi, which surpassed 8 million copies sold in 7 published books (Note: This number includes the 4 volumes of the manga). Mixing drama, romance and supernatural powers, the story takes place in an alternative Japan at the beginning of the 20th century following young Miyo, an unhappy girl born into an arranged marriage. After being rejected by her family for not inheriting her late mother's powers, she is forced to marry military captain Kudo Kiyoka, a man of great abilities who is rumored to be so cruel that he scared away each of his previous brides. Resigned Miyo accepts the marriage but is surprised to discover that Kiyoka is actually a good-hearted man, contrary to the rumors about him. Eventually she awakens a valuable supernatural ability which will make her a target for people with bad intentions. Season 1 was directed by Takehiro Kubota including Kaito Ishikawa and Reina Ueda in the main voices.
